Atletico Madrid have opened talks with France midfielder N’Golo Kante after Conor Gallagher’s deal fell through.
The England midfielder is set to leave the Blues after being told by the club that he will not be a regular part of Enzo Maresca’s new plans.
Gallagher has been in the Spanish capital for five days as he prepares to finalise the deal and the La Liga club are keen to sign him.
However, the deal is now on hold, with Gallagher returning to England on Tuesday night, while Atletico have opened talks with Kante’s brother over a European comeback, according to Relevo.
The 33-year-old is currently contract to Saudi Arabia’s Al-Ittihad until 2026 but is expect to cost significantly less than Gallagher.
After his personal success at Euro 2024, it is no surprise that Kante has attract a lot of attention, with the UFABET previously reporting that West Ham are also interest in him.
Kante is reportedly happy at Al Ittihad, playing alongside Karim Benzema, Fabinho and Moussa Diaby. But Relebo says the midfielder would be happy to wear the Atletico Madrid shirt as well.
However, the obstacle could be Kante’s wages. Which have increased significantly since his move to Saudi Arabia, with Atletico currently struggling financially over their latest deal.
