Andy Carroll is enjoying a promising start to his new career at Bordeaux, having been Liverpool ‘s most expensive signing since joining in 2011.

“It was a really difficult time in my life. It was a really stressful time. I felt depressed. Everything was dark. It was hard to get back up. I was breaking down and making bad decisions. Being treated badly, doing bad things. It was really hard.”

“As a player, you just want to go on the pitch and play. But sometimes you hear stories, people say, ‘Oh, he’s still injured’, ‘He should retire’ and things like that, which is not good.”
“At that time, there were problems and difficulties and you just try to get out of it because it can be harmful to you. Luckily, I was able to fix it and I had a better ending, so now I love playing football,” the 35-year-old forward said.
